Field report by Michael Remiger

As part of my bachelor’s degree in business administration at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, I was required to complete a 20-week internship to apply and deepen the theoretical knowledge gained during my studies in practice. I completed this internship in the team of Mr. Stefan Denk.

During my time at ALR Treuhand GmbH, I was able to get to know the varied activities in a tax consultancy and auditing company. In addition to the preparation of tax returns, the subsequent assessment, the preparation of financial accounts, the preparation and auditing of annual financial statements and consolidated financial statements, I always had the task of discussing a solution to individual problems of clients.

MY INTERNSHIP AT ALR: VERSATILE AND NEVER BORING

The advantages for interns at ALR Treuhand GmbH include the varied and never boring work, regular training, flexible working hours and, above all, the close cooperation within the team. The collegial interaction solves every question and contributes to the new development of my expertise.

Another big advantage is working with different DATEV tools. As an intern, I had the opportunity to learn the software and to participate in training courses on an ongoing basis.

Personally, I can only recommend the internship. In order to be able to continue to apply my new practical knowledge, I accepted a working student position at ALR after my internship. I am looking forward to future tasks and challenges.

On the Internet, I found an ad from ALR Treuhand GmbH via the platform indeed, which was exactly what I was looking for: a mandatory internship where I would get an insight into the business and tax processes of companies. Shortly after applying, I received an invitation to an interview. I used the time until then for intensive preparation and applicant training. Since I originally come from Syria, I wanted to prepare myself well for the requirements in a German company.

The interview with one of the company’s partners lasted about half an hour. The focus was on my expectations of the internship and my professional knowledge, which I had already acquired in the five semesters of my business studies at Munich University of Applied Sciences. Shortly after the interview, I received an acceptance letter.

I expected to learn as much as possible about the work of a tax advisor and auditor. Above all, I learned how to prepare and audit tax returns and annual financial statements. I also wanted to learn about the different legal forms of companies and understand how they work and the processes involved. By gaining practical experience in these areas, I also wanted to find out if these could be the activities I envision for my future professional life.

I SHARED MY OFFICE WITH AN EXPERIENCED TAX CONSULTANT

At ALR Treuhand, the induction process is based on a 1:1 support system. Right at the beginning, I was assigned to an experienced tax consultant. He supported me in my first steps at the firm. He assigned me tasks, explained them and was available as a contact person for all questions during my internship. Since we shared an office, queries were always possible in a “short way”.

ALR Treuhand provides extensive learning programs for familiarization. For example, I worked on videos in DATEV on the topic of “Accounting with DATEV Kanzlei-Rechnungswesen and the basics of annual financial statements”. I also used a corresponding training program to acquire knowledge of the legal principles of the German Commercial Code (HGB) and to deepen this knowledge, as it was planned that I would work on annual financial statements step by step.

After my mandatory internship, I got the chance to continue working as a student trainee at ALR. I am looking forward to continuing to link theoretical knowledge with practical content in the future.
